DOG MOM
by Tate Elizabeth Hanyok
directed by Heidi McKerley

A tail-wagging comedy! Newly-divorced Liz reluctantly fosters an older stray, convinced she’s signing up for short-term chaos. Instead, she gets an adorable and determined-to-love-her dog who won’t take “no” for an answer. As human actors embody both people friends and canines, this tender, funny, and quietly profound comedy unfolds through park meet-ups, awkward encounters, and doggy misadventures that slowly crack open Liz’s guarded heart. Celebrating the transformative power of companionship, this heartwarming story about second chances will leave you begging for more treats…er, laughs!

Trigger warning: a portion of this play gently addresses pet loss. But the focus overall is on friendship, connection, and healing.

WHAT KIND OF DOG MOM ARE YOU?
A wildly accurate, slightly theatrical personality quiz inspired by Dog Mom at Horizon Theatre (Answer honestly. Your dog has already formed opinions.)

TAKE THE QUIZ BELOW OR DOWNLOAD YOUR OWN PDF!

🐕 THE FOUR DOG MOM TYPES

🛡️ Ride-or-Die Dog Mom

You would leave a dinner party mid-sentence if your dog “felt weird.”
Your dog is not a pet—they are your soulmate, your child, your emotional support system, and possibly your emergency contact. If loving your dog this hard is wrong, you will not be taking notes.

🐾 Social Butterfly Dog Mom

You don’t own a dog—you run a dog community.
Your dog has a social calendar. You have a group chat. You’ve said “Wait, do you know Kevin? Golden? Great energy?” You are one interaction away from hosting a dog park reunion tour.

💅 Glam & Pamper Dog Mom

Your dog has a lifestyle brand.
You believe in quality, presentation, and the quiet power of a well-chosen accessory. You have absolutely adjusted your outfit to complement your dog’s look—and it was the right call.

💖 Big-Hearted Rescue Dog Mom

You didn’t just adopt a dog—you entered into a healing journey together.
You feel everything. You understand your dog’s backstory on a cellular level. You have cried over dogs you’ve never met and will absolutely do it again.
