Moving, funny, uplifting!

A good small supermarket has everything its neighborhood needs, including a charming cast of characters behind the counter. CITIZENS MARKET follows a hopeful group of immigrants as they form an unlikely family, working to master the ups and downs of language, love, and staying afloat in their new world.

Store manager Jesus (El Salvador), timid newcomer Akosua (Ghana), best employee Ciata (Sierra Leone) and homeless older couple Bogdan and Morphina (Romanian) discover new possibilities and restock their dreams amidst the aisles of cat food and canned goods. Full of laughter and life, this comedy-drama celebrates an ever-shifting and eclectic America.

Length & Content

This show runs approximately 100 minutes with no intermission.

While most of the play and its subject matter is accessible to wide audiences, it would be rated R since one character uses a lot of strong language (the “f” word), and late in the play there is fully clothed sexual activity onstage in a tender and funny scene with an older married couple. If you have any concern about this whatsoever, we are happy to send you the play and/or the particular scenes that have adult content so you can judge for yourself.

Handicap seating limited for this production. Please call to reserve if needed.
