| The Horizon Theatre Company is proud to present this suspense thriller that is not only a compelling work of art but also a call to action. In the hunt for a human interest story that will break the silence on the crisis in Darfur, a New York Times reporter’s life becomes intertwined with an aid worker’s mission to save lives and a Darfuri woman’s quest for safety at a refugee camp. Their own lives are put at risk trying to escape and bring this searing story of urgency and international significance to light to the world. |
In Darfur was co-commissioned by The Gutherie Theatre and The Playwrights’ Center in New York as part of the Two-Headed Challenge from playwright Winter Miller. The program funds a playwright to work in association with the most interesting person she/he knows outside theater. Miller, a New York Times researcher, chose Pulitzer Prize-winning, New York Times columnist Nicholas Kristoff. He helped her get into Darfur to research her subject when she accompanied Kristof and NBC's Ann Curry on a trip to the region in 2006. Her other works include The Penetration Play, Cake and Ice Cream: Greetings from Vietnam, Wish You Were Here and a series of short plays including Darfur, Sudan and Partylines. In Darfur premiered in a developmental production at the Public Theatre in New York in April 2007.
Horizon’s Co-Artistic Director, Lisa Adler, will direct. |
Performances of In Darfur will be presented Wednesday through Friday at 8:00 PM, Saturday 8:30 PM and Sunday at 5:00 PM. The production opens Friday, April 11, 2008 and runs through May 11, 2008. Tickets for In Darfur $20-$25. |
