Atlanta Chinese Dance Company educates and entertains audiences about Chinese and Chinese American history and culture through the art of Chinese dance. Founded in 1991 by Hwee-Eng Y. Lee and co-directed by Hwee-Eng and Kerry Lee, the multigenerational troupe has enchanted audiences from walks of life through original full-evening Chinese dance productions as well as community performances, lecture-demonstrations, and workshops/residencies throughout metro Atlanta and beyond. Most notably, Atlanta Chinese Dance Company helped showcase Atlanta to the world as performers in the opening and closing ceremonies of the Centennial Olympic Games. For more than a decade, they performed a culturally authentic “Chinese variation” in Act 2 of Atlanta Ballet’s “Nutcracker” at the Fabulous Fox Theatre.
The Asian Student Alliance (ASA) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded by Asian American educators from Gwinnett in the aftermath of the 2021 March 16th Atlanta Spa Shooting. ASA was born out of the need for a safe space for youth to share their experiences as Asian American and dream up a better future together. Through our monthly programming, ASA engages middle school, high school, and college-aged youth in advocacy, civic engagement, and leadership development.
ATL Radical Art (ARA) is a collective of local Atlanta artists committed to the creation of a radical and artistic counterculture in response to the social and political climate of our time. The collective’s artists engage in performances/experiments that shed light on topics of intersectional struggle, liberation, and protest from around the globe. ARA’s vision is to create spaces and works that thrive independent of institutional funding, finding its strength in community support. This community is primarily for people of color, women, queer & trans artists across multiple disciplines as well as accomplices who are working jointly with us towards similar goals and prioritize the visibility of said communities in Atlanta’s art scene.
