DAVID SEDARIS (Playwright) made his comic debut recounting his strange-but-true experiences of being a Macy's elf clad in green tights, reading his Santaland Diaries on National Public Radio's Morning Edition. Sedaris' sardonic humor and incisive social critique have since made him one of NPR's most popular and humorous commentators, and a best-selling author in the United States and abroad. David Sedaris is the author of the bestsellers Holidays on Ice (his collection of Christmas-related stories which features The Santaland Diaries) and Barrel Fever, as well as collections of personal essays, Naked, Me Talk Pretty One Day, and Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim, each of which became immediate bestsellers. There are a total of seven million copies of his books in print and they have been translated into 25 languages. Sedaris and his sister, Amy Sedaris, have collaborated under the name "The Talent Family" and have written several plays which have been produced at La Mama, Lincoln Center, and The Drama Department in New York City. These plays include Stump the Host, Stitches, One Woman Shoe (which received an Obie Award), Incident at Cobbler's Knob, and The Book of Liz which was published in book form by Dramatist's Play Service. His essays appear regularly in Esquire and The New Yorker. His recent collection of essays, titled When You Are Engulfed in Flames, was published in June 2008. Sedaris' original radio pieces can often be heard on public radio's This American Life, distributed nationally by Public Radio International and produced by WBEZ. In 2001, David Sedaris became the third recipient of the Thurber Prize for American Humor. He was named by Time magazine as "Humorist of the Year" in 2001. David Sedaris was nominated for two Grammy Awards for Best Spoken Word Album (Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim) and Best Comedy Album (David Sedaris: Live at Carnegie Hall).
JEFF ADLER (Director) has directed numerous productions for Horizon Theatre, beginning with Horizon's first production Bonjour, la, Bonjour in 1983. Other Horizon favorites include Superior Donuts, Shooting Star, Altar Boyz, Madame Melville, The Lonesome West, Racing Demon, Voir Dire, Marvin's Room, The Film Society, Aunt Dan and Lemon, Heathen Valley, The Secret Rapture, Full Moon, Mere Mortals, All in the Timing, Wonder of the World, Time Flies, Charm School, and Almost, Maine. He has also directed at other theatres and colleges including LaGrange College, Gainesville Theatre Alliance, and GMT Productions. He is a 1999 recipient of a Lexus Leaders in the Arts Award and the Arts and Business Council's Abby Award for Outstanding Arts Professional. As Founding Co-Artistic/Technical Director, Jeff has been behind the scenes of every set built for Horizon Theatre productions.
