Nicole Johnson

Nicole Johnson (Choreographer), Atlanta native and a founding artist of Fly on a Wall, began her professional career with the Atlanta Ballet in 2002 where she had the pleasure of working under the direction of John McFall. In 2009, she left the ballet to pursue more contemporary work, and began to spend dedicated time in the studio with dance maker Lauri Stalling’s. This led to the formation of gloATL, and in her five years helping to build glo, she learned a great deal about herself, Atlanta, and the relationship between art and the individuals experiencing it. Nicole’s numerous opportunities to work with artists across media has given her the understanding that all work is truly collaborative at heart. This belief led to the creation of Fly on Wall in 2014 with Sean Nguyen-Hilton and Nathan Griswold. Since 2014, Fly on a Wall has created 12 original works for Atlanta and been presented by Dashboard, The Alliance Theater for the Very Young, the High Museum, Hambidge HiVE, The Atlanta Contemporary, and The Atlanta Botanical Gardens, and were Distinguished Fellows with a Fulton County Arts Council Scholarship at the Hambidge Center for Creative Arts and Sciences. Nicole graduated Suma Cum Laude from Georgia State University in 2008 with a degree in History and Sociology and was a 2016 Walthall Fellow. She has had the pleasure to work with Horizon Theater on Project Dawn, Madeline’s Christmas, and Klook’s Last Stand. Nicole is ever grateful for her family and friends who believe in a life in pursuit of the arts.
