TIME COMMITMENT:
- Evenings and weekends for one year, June – May
- All Monday nights, Saturday mornings
- Weekday duties may substitute for some evening duties, depending on Apprentice availability
Choosing to be part of the Apprentice Company is a serious time commitment. Other evening/weekend work during the year will not be possible for acting, directing/producing, and stage management Apprentices.
FEES:
The Apprentice Company is selected competitively. There is no cost to participate once selected, and there is no compensation for any duties.
ARTISTIC/TRAINING BENEFITS:
- Saturday morning seminars/workshops/rehearsals from 9:30 am – Noon
- Monday evening rehearsals/classes from 7 – 10 pm
- Monthly intern “field trips” to plays/theatres
- 2 children’s shows during the year produced and performed by the Apprentice Company – Saturday early afternoons for a seven week run
RESPONSIBILITIES
Actors
Training/Performance
- Saturday morning and Monday night classes/seminars weekly (with breaks for tech rehearsal, etc.) topics include voice, movement, scene study, techniques, etc.
- Act in children’s theatre productions
- Act in Apprentice Company production
- Act in new play readings as requested
- Audition for mainstage productions as appropriate
- Serve as script reader/evaluator for new plays as requested
- Monthly intern “field trips” to plays/theatres
Duties
- Crew two mainstage productions during the season
- Front of House or Administrative assignment when not crewing
- Participate in all Apprentice company productions, providing artistic/tech/crew/box/house support as needed
- Assist with load-in and strike for all productions
- Assist with administrative, technical, and artistic tasks related to Horizon’s annual benefit event, Atlanta Stories
Directors/Producers
Training/Artistic Opportunities
- Saturday morning and Monday night classes/seminars weekly (with breaks for tech rehearsal, etc.) topics include voice, movement, scene study, techniques, etc.
- Work with actors on scene study and with designers on design seminars
- Opportunity to apply for Directing position for a children’s production
- Assistant direct on at least 2 mainstage productions
- Assist in administration of casting for all mainstage productions
- Assistant direct or direct new play readings as requested
- Assist in new play research
- Serve as script reader/evaluator for new plays as requested
- Monthly intern “field trips” to plays/theatres
Duties
- Crew two mainstage productions during the season
- Front of House or Administrative assignment when not crewing
- Participate in all Apprentice company productions, providing artistic/tech/crew/box/house support as needed
- Assist with load-in and strike for all productions
- Assist with administrative, technical, and artistic tasks related to Horizon’s annual benefit event, Atlanta Stories
Playwrights
Training
- Saturday morning and Monday night classes/seminars weekly (with breaks for tech rehearsal, etc.) topics include voice, movement, scene study, techniques, etc.
- Weekly playwrights round table, readings of their work throughout year by other Apprentices
- Coaching sessions with professional Atlanta area playwrights
- Participation in the Young Playwrights and the New South Festival
- Assist in new play research
- Serve as script reader/evaluator for new plays as requested
- Monthly intern “field trips” to plays/theatres
Duties
- Crew two mainstage productions during the season
- Front of House or Administrative assignment when not crewing
- Participate in all Apprentice company productions, providing artistic/tech/crew/box/house support as needed
- Assist with the planning and coordination of the Young Playwrights Festival and the New South Festival
- Assist with load-in and strike for all productions
- Assist with administrative, technical, and artistic tasks related to Horizon’s annual benefit event, Atlanta Stories
Designers (Scenic, Costume, Sound, and Light)
Training
- Saturday morning and Monday night classes/seminars weekly (with breaks for tech rehearsal, etc.)
- Monthly design seminars
- Serve as the designers and builders for all Apprentice company and children’s theatre productions
- Coaching sessions with professional Atlanta area designers
- Serves as an assistant to each of designers for the mainstage season
- Monthly intern “field trips” to plays/theatres
Duties
- Crew two mainstage productions during the season
- Front of House or Administrative assignment when not crewing
- Participate in all Apprentice company productions, providing artistic/tech/crew/box/house support as needed
- Assist with load-in and strike for all productions
- Assist in the maintenance and quality control of the productions (i.e. set/prop maintenance, costume repairs, etc.)
- Assist with administrative, technical, and artistic tasks related to Horizon’s annual benefit event, Atlanta Stories
Stage Management
Training
- Saturday morning and Monday night classes/seminars weekly (with breaks for tech rehearsal, etc.)
- Serve as the Assistant Stage Manager for at least 2 mainstage productions
- Serve as the Stage Manager for all Apprentice Company and children’s theatre productions
- Opportunity to apply for Stage Manager positions for the mainstage productions
- Monthly intern “field trips” to plays/theatres
Duties
- Crew two mainstage productions during the season
- Front of House or Administrative assignment when not crewing
- Participate in all Apprentice company productions, providing artistic/tech/crew/box/house support as needed
- Assist with load-in and strike for all productions
