About the Playwrights

Thomas W. Jones, II has directed, written, and performed in more than 200 plays worldwide.  In 1978, Jones founded Jomandi Productions, where, as Co-Artistic Director and later Producing Director, he saw Jomandi soar to become the third largest African-American theatre company in the United States.  His work, as writer, director, and actor, has been acclaimed nationally and internationally. Jones has received 42 Helen Hayes Award nominations, of which he has won 12, including Best Director for Home and Bessie's Blues, which he also wrote.  In 2000, Tom and his co-founders left Jomandi to create VIA International Artists, Inc. Jones wrote and directed Horizon’s 2004 production Two Queens, One Castle and directed the 2005 production Blue.

Janet Pryce (Story) originally produced Three Sistahs at MetroStage in the Washington, DC area and in New York as part of the New York Musical Theatre Festival. She produced “Kid Simple” at the New York Summer Play Festival and has worked on the television production teams for The Grammy Awards, The Kennedy Center Honors, Christmas in Washington, Ford’s Theatre Celebration among others. She was nominated for a Helen Hayes Award (Best New Musical) for Three Sistahs. Ms. Pryce received her BFA at George Mason University and performed on stage for many years in the DC area at such theatre’s as; The Kennedy Center, Arena Stage and The Studio Theatre, before moving to work and live in Manhattan.

William F. Hubbard (Music Director) is a composer, musician, vocalist and arranger who recently served as music director for MetroStage’s production of Two Queens, One Castle which included his compositions.  William made his Equity Actor’s debut in All Night Strut at the MetroStage in Alexandria, VA.  He is a Helen Hayes award winner for Best Musical Direction for Crowns at the Arena Stage in Washington, DC and received a nomination for his work in Mahalia.  His score for Three Sistahs also garnered him a Hayes nomination along with Tom Jones and Janet Pryce and was part of the New York Festival of New Musicals.  He is internationally known for his hymn I Love You Lord Today published in the New African American Heritage Hymnal.  Thanks to God and I love you Bangor Tribe.

About the Cast

Crystal Fox* (Marsha Bradshaw) reprises the role of Marsha for Horizon Theatre.  Best known for her role as Sgt. LuAnn Corbin in In the Heat of the Night, other television credits include Third Watch, Sopranos, Law & Order and Separate but Equal a made for television movie starring Sidney Poitier.  Her theatre credits include Everybody’s Ruby (Public House), Flyin’ West (True Colors Theatre), Seven Guitars, M Rainey’s Black Bottom, The Colored Museum, and Mississippi Delta (Alliance Theatre), Little Shop of Horrors and Janet Rocky Horror Picture Show (Theatrical Outfit), and For Colored Girls (Portland Center Stage) for which she won the 2002 Drammy Award for Actress in a Lead Role.  Crystal’s film credits include Driving Miss Daisy, Drop Squad, and When We Were Colored

Amber Iman* (Irene Bradshaw) is delighted to return to Horizon Theatre in Three Sistahs where she was last seen in the Suzi Award Winning production Shakin’ the Mess Outta Misery. Recent credits include Colored Museum (True Colors); Gut Bucket Blues (True Colors); Stick Fly (Arena Stage/Huntington Theatre Company); Goodnight Moon (Alliance Theatre); and Once On this Island (Aurora Theatre). Next, Amber can be seen in Into the Woods at Alliance Theatre. Amber attended Howard University (BFA) and is a member of Sigma Alpha Iota, International Music Fraternity for Women and D.I.V.A., Inc. A huge thanks to Tom, Bern, Foxy, Liz, William & Renee' for this incredible journey and ALL of the laughs - this is truly a dream come true! Bernardine Mitchell* (Olive Bradshaw) reprises the role of Olive for Horizon Theatre.  An Atlanta native, has performed nationally and internationally in a wide range of roles that include Bessie Smith in Bessie’s Blues with the San Diego Repertory, Alice in Big River, Blues Speak Woman in Spunk and The Matron in Chicago.  Bernardine received the 1993 Los Angeles Dramalogue Award for Best Actress.  She is also the 2002 and 2005 Helen Hayes Award winner for Outstanding Lead Actress for her performances in “Blues in the Night” and “Mahalia”.  She has been featured with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, with the Harlem Gospel Singers on their 1997-1998 European Tour, on ABC-TV’s Today Show, and in the CBS television movies The Guyana Tragedy and A Resting Place starring Morgan Freeman.  Bernardine majored in Voice and Musical Theatre at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music

Keith Alan Bergeron (Sound Designer) is delighted to be back at Horizon Theatre where he just designed sound for Avenue Q. Past shows include: Spitfire Grill, RENT, 1940’s Radio Hour, Wizard of Oz. He would like to thank his beautiful wife and amazing daughters for their support.

Liz Campbell* (Stage Manager) is excited to be working at Horizon Theatre again. Her past credits include: True Love Lies, Charm School, The Bluest Eye and The Syringa Tree. Other local credits include: Honk!, Disney’s Mulan, Middle School the Musical, Class of 3000, Live! and Goodnight, Moon! (Alliance Theatre) and It’s a Wonderful Life: A Radio Play (Theatrical Outfit). She holds a BFA in Theatre from Niagara University. Proud member Actors’ Equity Association.

Nyrobi Moss (Costume Designer) has been a professional costume/clothing designer for more than seventeen years. With her start in theater costuming and construction, she has since evolved into a noted fashion designer, with a host of artist and celebrity clientele. Her previous design credits include, but are not limited to: Shakin’ the Mess Outta Misery, Acton Acts Out, Vampire Lesbians Of Sodom, Member Of The Wedding, Free To Be You And Me, Last Night Of Ballyhoo, Tartuffe, Medea, The Big Bang, Permanent Collection, The Wiz and Wizzer Pizzer. Maclare “MC” Park (Prop Designer) is a freelance prop artisan who is also the resident Prop Master at Georgia Ensemble Theatre of Roswell. This year’s prop work includes: Gut Bucket Blues (True Colors Theater), 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee (Georgia Ensemble), I Dream: a Rhythm and Blues Opera (Musical-Dramatic Arts Inc.), Tokens of Affection (Georgia Ensemble) Travelin’ Black (Theatrical Outfit), and Fool for Love (True Colors Theater).

Mary Parker (Lighting Designer) is thrilled to return to Horizon Theatre as a resident designer. Over the 7 years that Mary has called Atlanta home, she has had the pleasure of designing for almost every professional theatre company in town, as well as several regional theatres throughout the Southeast. Recent favorites include: Night Blooms and Black Pearl Sings at Horizon Theatre; Who Wants to Become A Pirate at South Carolina’s Children’s Theatre; Sty of the Blind Pig at True Colors Theatre Company; Spelling Bee, Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story and What I Did Last Summer at Georgia Ensemble Theatre; Little Foxes and Eye Of The Sparrow at Theatre in the Square; Assistant Designer Bring It On at the Tony Award Winning Alliance Theatre. JOHN THIGPEN (Scenic Designer) has 30 years experience in set design for film, television and theatrical productions.  Stage designs include work for many professional and educational theatres in the Atlanta area and the Springer Opera House, Columbus, GA where he recently designed the world premier of Topher Payne’s Lakebottom Proper. This is Mr. Thigpen’s 22nd design for Horizon Theatre. Favorite projects at Horizon Theatre include:  Altar Boyz, Café Puttanesca, Homebody/Kabul, The Drawer Boy, Frankie and Johnny in the Clair de Lune, Fen, and The Art of Dining (1985).  John worked as Assistant Designer on Viacom television productions of Perry Mason Specials, The Father Dowling Mysteries and Diagnosis Murder in Denver, CO.  His Atlanta film experience includes working as Scenic Artist on films Footloose, Driving Miss Daisy and School Daze.  John was honored to have one of his ceramic sculptures in the 2009 exhibit Flora: Growing Inspirations at the U.S. Botanic Garden, Washington, DC and published in Lark Books 500 Raku. He was recently commissioned by City of Stone Mountain to create a historical sculpture, “Granite Workers,” installed in 2010 on the newly renovated Main Street streetscape.
