Dear Friends,
If you love us (or only like us a little!), we need your support now more than ever.
It's our 25th year, and it has been our most challenging ever! In the next eight weeks,
we must close an income gap of $200,000 - it's a tough reality for a lean, mean organization that's never had a deficit in 25 years. Will you make a difference in our world? We can't rely on corporations, foundations or the government to keep us strong - can we count on you?
We have launched The 25 Campaign - a grassroots effort to broaden our donor base of support to help us continue producing the plays you love. Our dream is for 1,000 donors instead of 300, giving us a sustainable source of contributed income that allows us to do what we do best - connect you to entertaining, positive, intimate, and thought-provoking contemporary theatre.
Will you donate today? Your contribution, when combined with others, can make a big difference. If all of our audience participates (even $25), we can EASILY reach our goal!
We know the needs out there are great, we know that it is challenging for everyone, but your $5, $10, or $25 contribution will make a difference (and if you have $2,500 or $25,000 we'll take that, too). Help us reach our goal by sharing this message with your world (or just three friends).
Sincerely,
Jeff and Lisa Adler

“We’ve been season ticket holders for years and love being provided with thought-provoking, fresh, situational theatre that often teaches us a lot. It’s not the same-old, same-old… We support Horizon Theatre because there are very few theatres out there that take you out of your own culture and experience into a new one. It’s important in this world to have the opportunities to step into the shoes of other people, to have a truly authentic experience.”

I Fell in love with the Theatre!
“Horizon Theatre is the place where I first fell in love with small theatre. When I say small theatre I am referring to intimate theatres. One of my first dates with my now husband was in late 2000 or early 2001...I can't remember exactly. He suggested we go to dinner & a play at Horizon Theatre. We had been close friends for ten years at this point and I was most flattered he had planned a "real date." We went with about eight friends to see "I love you, you're perfect, now change!" I honestly can say I had never laughed so hard in my life! It was hilarious from begining to end...with a few unexpected touching moments throughout the show. We've since seen "I love you" twice more and while we enjoyed those productions too they just didn't hold the charm of that very first one. Maybe it was our budding romance or the fact that we were front row with all of our best friends who could totally relate to every scene? I'm not sure but I do know it was that day I fell in love with live theatre. We now make the circuit of smaller theatres in Atlanta and love the quaint, cozy feel of being close to the stage. There is nothing like it in the entertainment world and Horizon is one of the best!”
BabyProofing!
“One last memory---There was a scene in "I love you" where the new dad takes the teddy bear brought to his baby by visiting friends and he pulls at the parts, trys to chew the eyes & nose off....just to make sure it was safe for his baby. It was a very funny, over the top scene poking fun at new, first-time parents. We now have a 21 month old daughter and we find ourselves cutting eyes at each other and laughing when we catch ourselves in a similar situations as we ensure that toys are babyproof!”
Theatrical Debut!
I think one of my favorite memories happened during last years SantaLand. My dear friend Carole Galanty had a walk on role. A group of us came to cheer her on. We couldn't miss her theatrical debut. It was a blast!! thank you for many fine productions & a happy silver anniversary.
A Love Story
I met the love of my life at Horizon Theatre. In the summer of 1998, we both attended your production of "Cowgirls" with a group of women from Fourth Tuesday, a lesbian networking group. I noticed Susan before the show started. During intermission, I was talking with a friend of hers, when she joined us. After the show, the group was going out to dinner. Susan and I decided to go out by ourselves-we have been together ever since.
Santaland First-timer
The first time I visited Horizon was winter of 2006 to see Santa Land Diaries. I am a big David Sedaris fan, and my friend was working at the theater at the time offered to get me free tickets. I loved the show, and as I was in school studying theater at the time, vowed that I would get myself in good enough shape so that I could one day play Snowball!
Since returning to Atlanta from St. Louis, I made it to your production of Clean House, which I thoroughly enjoyed. I also bought my parent's tickets to Altar Boyz to celebrate their 50th birthdays. They had a great time and were very grateful.
I appreciate the thoughtful productions of relevant, female-focused productions that Horizon does. I would love the opportunity to work with your theater in the coming years! Or at least to get free tickets to the 13th of Paris...being a starving artist makes it difficult to see much theater.
Thanks for all of your hard work! I appreciate it!
Santaland – the Anti-Grinch
My first trip to the Horizon was this past winter to see Santaland Diaries. I'd broken up with my boyfriend a few months before and couldn't seem to get into the holiday spirit. So I made a Christmas plan – a season full of holiday activities that I hoped would bring me a little cheer, from taking my grandmother to midnight Mass Christmas Eve to finally renting "A Christmas Story" to making real-deal hot chocolate. And when I saw the Horizon was putting on Sedaris starring my college theater teacher, it went to the top of my list.
It's not a grand, exciting story, but it's a special one to me – a chilly evening with my friend watching a play, laughing and eating mints and going home feeling a little more able to face the Christmas hordes without turning into a Grinch.
An Entertaining Evening
Horizon always provides the best value and great actors. After my wife and I attend a performance, we always leave with an uplifting feeling. An evening of sheer enjoyment, being together, experiencing live theater.
Finding Mr. Right
Horizon has been a big part of my dating life! I have been to Horizon on several dates. Even when my date didn’t turn out to be the man of my dreams, we both enjoyed the show. I have also been to Horizon with the best date of all, my fiancé, and we look forward to sharing many more Horizon experiences together.
The Last First Date
Horizon Theatre is important to me and my wife. We started dating 4 years ago, and one of our first dates was to see the Santaland Diaries. During the show we laughed, and laughed, and LAUGHED! We enjoyed it so much that we decided to make it an annual tradition. We've gone every year, and plan on continuing as long as we can. We have also had the pleasure of seeing several more productions, and are always impressed w/ the talent and professionalism. The Horizon Theatre is a great addition to the neighborhood, and to the overall arts scene in Atlanta!
The Happiest Night of My Life
My fiancee and I dated long distance for 2 years. I lived in New Orleans and he lived in Atlanta. When I would visit Atlanta, I always looked forward to attending a show at the Horizon. We saw "I Love you, you're perfect, now change" and "Water Coolers". In May of 2008 I took another position with my company and relocated to Atlanta. Finally we were in the same city! Over the next few months I kept mentioning to him that I really wanted to see another show at the Horizon. He got us two tickets to see "Altar Boyz" On November 1, 2008. I couldn't wait. Before the play he took me to my favorite restaurant in Atlantic Station- Cheesecake Bistro. We enjoyed a wonderful meal and great conversation. When the waiter cleared the dishes, Chris reached across the table and took my hands in his. He started to talk about how happy he was and blessed to have me in his life. He reached into his pocket and got down on one knee in the middle of the restaurant and asked me to marry him! I couldn't speak for probably about 30 seconds. Once the blood rushed back to my brain, I said yes. The entire restaurant applauded and congratulated us. We left the restaurant to make it to the Horizon on time for the play. Along the way I called my mom, dad (who knew in advance b/c Chris had called to ask his blessing), brothers, friends and his parents. I arrived at Horizon floating on cloud nine. I will always remember Horizon and seeing "Altar Boyz" on one of the happiest nights of my life.
Thank you for allowing me to share our precious memory. We're going to be married June 2010 in New Orleans. |
